Growing Hispanic Representation

The proportion of engineering bachelor's degrees awarded to Hispanics has risen steadily since hovering around 5.4 percent between 1997 and 2003. This trend will continue, based on the recent growth in enrollment. Overall, these growth rates have slightly exceeded the overall percentage growth of Hispanics in the U.S. population. A similar trend is evident at the master's level, where current Hispanic representation stands at 5.3 percent of degrees awarded. Growth at teh doctoral level has been negligible. The figure for Ph.D.s was 3.8 percent in 2009.
