 DATABYTES

COMPILED BY MICHAEL GIBBONS
WITH COOPERATION FROM JULIE ELLIS, ASSOCIATE
PROFESSOR AND CHAIR OF ENGINEERING AT THE
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MAINE
DATABYTES: AT THE HEAD OF THE CLASS TOTAL NUMBER OF TENURED/TENURE-TRACK FACULTY

The 19 largest engineering schools produced one quarter of the 73,315 engineering bachelor’s degrees awarded in 2006—07.

That’s the same percentage produced by the 217 smallest schools. These small schools employ almost 30 percent of engineering faculty members, which means that on average, they have a higher faculty-to-student ratio. Other faculty data trends can be viewed at www.asee.org/colleges.
